Productivity and Manufacturing Systems Solutions
Building a World Class Organization
Being world class means "being the best" at bringing products and services to the marketplace which offer better value than the competition. This three-day course presents practical and successful strategies for implementing the new systems, procedures, practices, and cultural attitudes essential for becoming world-class competitive. It provides an opportunity for managers from different functional areas to learn what world-class competitiveness means, and to develop an understanding of how to achieve it.

Using Industrial Engineering Tools to Improve Efficiency and Productivity
This two and a half-day course will provide attendees with the basic understanding of the principles and tools of industrial engineering that all organizations need in order to standardize and simplify work processes and methods, incorporate quality and productivity improvement considerations into these methods, and provide cost justification for new methods and equipment. The role of the industrial engineer is even more important now than in the past. This course will bring attendees up to date with the latest methodologies and tools for improving efficiency and productivity.

Facilities Planning and Layout for Improved Productivity and Competitiveness
This two-day course gives a general overview of the many facilities planning and layout alternative strategies for improving competitiveness in both manufacturing and service environments. Systematic approaches for planning, designing, and implementing layouts are presented with numerous examples and case studies. The entire planning process is addressed: establishing objectives, capacity planning, layout design, evaluation and analysis, and implementation. Design and analysis of both functional and cellular layouts are analyzed through hands-on workshops using software tools.

Set-Up Reduction II: Going Beyond SMED to Productivity and Quality Improvement
Set-Up Reduction II has been developed to give attendees valuable hands-on experience with problem solving and applying the techniques and strategies necessary for a successful set-up reduction program. The lectures and workshop sessions will enable attendees to begin at once organizing and implementing a successful set-up reduction program. Engineers, managers, supervisors, and set-up personnel will benefit from this practical two-day course.

Systems Modeling
This one and a half-day course focuses on only the systems modeling phase of the Facilities Planning and Layout for Improved Productivity and Competitiveness course. Systems Modeling addresses the many different modeling tools that are available and describes which tool is most appropriate at each of the different facilities planning phases. It also addresses which modeling tools are most appropriate for the different layout alternatives. A case study is taken through the various stages of planning and systems modeling using static spreadsheet models, queuing models, and simulation models. Hands-on workshops with computer modeling tools ensure attendees are thoroughly familiar with both the concepts and the applications of systems modeling. This course is applicable to both manufacturing and office environments.

Poka Yoke
A concept developed by Japanese manufacturing engineer Shigeo Shingo, poka yoke is a technique for avoiding simple human error at work. A poka yoke device is any mechanism that either prevents a mistake from being made or makes the mistake obvious at a glance. The term poka yoke is generally translated as “mistake-proofing” or “fail-safing” (to avoid (yokeru) inadvertent errors (poka)). In this one-day course, you will learn principles of poka yoke, types of poka yoke, various tools and tips for applying poka yoke, and numerous examples of poka yoke in use to get your creativity flowing for mistake-proofing operations in your organization.
